Aqeeqa Invitation: Wording, Guests and Planning

An Aqeeqa is a happy family gathering to thank Allah for a new baby. Here is how families usually plan it and invite guests. For religious questions about the Aqeeqa itself, please ask a scholar you trust.

When is the Aqeeqa held?

Many families hold it on the seventh day after the birth, and others choose a later day that suits the family. The gathering is often a lunch or dinner at home or at a small hall.

Who to invite

Usually close family, neighbours and friends. Because the baby and mother are still resting, many families keep it small and simple.

What to write on the card

  • Bismillah and a short "Alhamdulillah" line.
  • Who is inviting: the parents or the grandparents.
  • The baby's name, in English and Urdu.
  • Date, time and place, and whether it is lunch or dinner.

Wording examples

  • With the blessings of Allah, Bilal & Sana request the pleasure of your company at the Aqeeqa of their son Muhammad Ali.
  • Allah ke fazl se Bilal aur Sana aap ko apne betay Muhammad Ali ke Aqeeqe mein aane ki dawat dete hain.
  • اللہ تعالیٰ نے ہمیں بیٹے کی نعمت سے نوازا ہے۔ محمد علی کے عقیقے کی تقریب میں آپ کی شرکت ہمارے لیے باعثِ مسرت ہوگی۔

Adding a photo

Many parents like to add a photo of the baby to the card. On ApniDawat you can add one photo, shown in a round frame on the cover.
